#ListenWhileUDraw Twitter Hashtag

Our generation is the first to experience an artistic renaissance catalyzed by access to the web while creating. We can find inspiration in philosophy, literature, poetry, plays, films, documentaries, interviews, music, lectures, tutorials — worldwide, at no cost, anytime — while working in any medium. Whether painting outdoors or animating at a desk we have access to ideas and inspiration unmatched by any previous generation.

Every few months this list will be updated.  Please make suggestions via the Twitter hashtag #ListenWhileUDraw

Enjoy being conversant in the Grand Ideas via our generation’s Web Renaissance!

The Complete Arkangel Shakespeare audio book — a multimillion dollar production five years in the making using over 350 actors — is the definitive audio Shakespeare.  Someone should buy the copyright for this entire project and release it publicly. In the meantime check out your local public library.

Power of Art: Dice Tsutsumi Created A Benefit Fund “Artists Help Japan”

On March 11, an 8.9 earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan near the city of Sendai. It is the most powerful earthquake they ever experienced. Artists Help Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Fund is responding to the immediate needs of survivors as well as short-term to long-term recovery projects undertaken by the affected communities.

From their FAQ:

*Artists have done many successful fund raising auctions such as Totoro Forest Project and Art Blocks for Ghana.   Are you planning another art auction to raise money for this?

YES!  We believe there are things artists can do! We are in the process of setting up something like that.
This time, we may have to be more creative and ask each artist to step up to do more than just creating artwork.   We will keep you posted.  Please keep your eye on this blog.

*Where does this money go?

Artists Help Japan fund will go directly to Give2Asia’s main Japan Earthquake Fund.
Artists Help Japan is created as a simple portal to get artists united to help.  We have worked with Give2Asia and we believe they will use the fund wisely for what’s most needed in Japan.

Storytelling in Song: Kerrville Folk Music Festival

Great storytelling can be found in songs and some of the best narrative songwriters can be heard around campfires for an entire month in Kerrville, Texas each summer.  Check them out sometime.  Bring a tent, your sketchbook, and a smile while pausing to listen to some of the best storytellers in America from your campsite. (There are even storytelling workshops!)

Actually very sophisticated advice on how to write a narrative song, useful for writers of all kinds:  http://folkmusic.about.com/od/tipsforpros/ht/WriteASong.htm

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrcasso!

Purrcasso is an art and craft auction/gala benefiting the Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society in Berkeley, CA.

It’s that time of year again and they’re in need of contributions. The event will be split into two parts: an evening auction of fine art/illustration and a daytime craft fair. If you’re an artist who would like to donate a cat or dog themed piece of art, check out the official website for details.

Submissions are due by October 17th, 2009.

The show itself will be held November 7th and 8th (location still to be determined), so if you’re an art collector who enjoys the work of animation artists you may want to check it out.

All money raised will go to the care for animals in the Berkeley Animal Shelter.
